[ lil pauses thoughtfully, considering her options a moment before she spots a booth she likes, linking her arm loosely with renee's to pull her in that direction. she only lets go to slide into the seat, smiling when she comments a bit teasingly: ]
[ At that comment, her smile weakens, though it doesn't completely fade. Handing Lil one of the menus on the table, she casually brushes off her momentary awkwardness. ]
[ lil pauses, seeing the way renee's smile wanes at her teasing -- but before she can comment on it, she's distracted by the menu. accepting it, she glances down, skimming the various options. ]
Everythin' looks real good. [ she thoughtfully taps the fingers of her free hand against the table. ] Definitely gonna want a glass of wine though.
[ lil does get that glass of wine -- a nice red, according to the menu -- and one of the chef's specials, something that apparently has salmon in it. she waits for renee to order before turning her attention back to their conversation, commenting lightly: ]
This is nice. Almost feel like I should ask what the occasion is.
I missed havin' a gal friend t'hang out with. It's been a while. [ she hasn't really had anyone, not since monica chang was sent home. and so much of her time gets spent being resentful and angry when she's on her own. ] I'm glad we met, hon.
[ she smiles at that -- her big smile, the real one that renee gets to see more than anyone else does. it comes naturally when they're together. maybe because for once, she feels like there's someone she doesn't have to pin and tie down to make them be around her -- not like frank, and not like her husband before him. ]
It better not be. I was startin' t'think y'actually like hangin' out with me.
[ she loves that, hearing the lightness in renee's voice and seeing her grin. it's important somehow. she and madison had been so miserable together, despite how much she'd cared about him -- so it means something, to be able to make another person smile like that. she was starting to think she couldn't anymore. ]
Y'remember that night at the bar? I swear I was half-ready t'get in a fist fight with you if y'tried arrestin' me. Funny how things work out, ain't it.
[ lil pauses as the waiter brings their order, glancing down at her food before she responds. the salmon smells delicious. she tucks her napkin into her nap absently before picking up her knife and fork. ]
After y'takin' me out like this? I'd have t'let you win.

Can't argue with that.
[ A waiter approaches their table, and Renee waits for Lil to order before she places her own. ]

The holidays and all. [ She shrugs nonchalantly for effect. Renee didn't need a special reason to invite Lil to lunch. ]
Besides, it's like I said. My turn to treat you.

[ Her voice is light as she teases Lil. Renee grins, feeling surprisingly carefree for once. ]

Never too late. We can always save the fist fight for after we eat.

All part of the plan.

Yeah? Well, y'got me. [ mildly teasing, as she cuts off a little piece of her salmon: ] I surrender, Officer. Please be gentle.

I'll read you your rights once lunch is over.
